Kathleen O'Loughlin Receives 2010 Lucy Hobbs Taylor Award
The American Association of Women Dentists is pleased to announce Kathleen O'Loughlin, DMD, MPH, as the recipient of the 2010 Lucy Hobbs Taylor. The Lucy Hobbs Taylor Award is AAWD's highest honor, and recognizes significant service to dentistry on the basis of achievement in civic, cultural, humanitarian and academic areas.

This award honors women who promote a positive image for women in dentistry and those who help to advance AAWD's mission to be the recognized resource for connecting and enriching lives of women dentists.

A member of AAWD since the early 1980's, she practiced for 20 years in Medford and Winchester, MA while serving as an Assistant Clinical Professor at Tufts University School of Dental Medicine. In 1981, she received her doctorate from Tufts University summa cum laude. She was the first woman in the history of the dental school to be both class president and class valedictorian. In 1998, Dr. O'Loughlin received a master's degree in Public Health and Health Care Management from Harvard University. She is the former President and CEO of Dental Service of Massachusetts.

On June 1, 2009, Dr. O'Loughlin became the ADA's Executive Director/Chief Operating Officer, the first female executive director in the ADA's 150-year history.

For more than 25 years, Dr. O'Loughlin has been an active member in the American Dental Association and the Massachusetts Dental Society. She is also a member of the International College of Dentists, the American College of Dentists, the Pierre Fauchard Academy, and the Tufts University School of Dental Medicine Alumni Association. She currently serves on the Board of Trustees for Tufts University in Medford, Massachusetts.

Dr. O'Loughlin received her award during AAWD's Annual Meeting and Conference Awards Dinner, on Friday, June 25, 2010 at the Wyndham Chicago.

2010 Colgate Research Award Recipients

The Colgate Research Scholarship Award is presented to Junior and/or Senior dental students, who have shown academic distinction and demonstration of excellence in research. Since 1980, Colgate has sponsored these awards, which encourage AAWD student member to excel in the field of research.

EverLight Wins 2010 Best New Product for Women Award
During the 89th Annual Meeting of the American Association of Women Dentists (AAWD), held June 24-26, 2010 in Chicago, IL, AAWD annual meeting attendees were given the opportunity to cast their vote for the 4th Annual Best New Product for Women.
The judging was conducted by the AAWD Members and attendees of the AAWD’s Annual Meeting. The judging criteria was based on selecting a product or service beneficial to women dentists or their female patients. The meeting attendees were encouraged to visit exhibitors to get more information about their products.

AAWD is pleased to announce that EverLight was named the “Best New Product for Women for 2010.

EverLight is an alternative to halogen-based operatory lights that provides color corrected light, focused pattern and is energy efficient.
The LED EverLight provides energy-efficient features simply not possible using traditional halogen lighting. The EverLight encompasses a long life of 30,000-plus hours, 10 times longer than halogen, reducing the need for replacement of lightbulbs.
