AAWD and PPP are teaming up to commemorate Women’s History Month!  While some risks are worth taking, others are not.  During the month, we will highlight women known for taking distinct risks to lead the way in the field of dentistry, while also pointing out some risks that dentists shouldn’t take in their dental office.

A Risk Worth Taking!

Jeanne Sinkford graduated at the top of her class from Howard University, earning a DDS in 1958. She taught at Howard and practiced part time, before moving to Chicago and earning an MS and PhD from Northwestern University. She later returned to Howard University, where she was promoted to professor and associate professor. In 1975 Sinkford was appointed dean, making her the first female dean of any dental program.  Because of Sinkford’s risk, many deans of dental programs are female.

While some risks are worth taking, others are not…

Be aware of your malpractice carrier’s financial rating! All insurance carriers receive a grade from A++ to E by AM Best, a credit rating agency. The rating is determined based on a thorough analysis of the company’s balance sheet strength, operating performance, and business profile. These ratings are a good indicator of your insurance company’s financial stability and longevity. Companies rated “A” and higher have excellent potential to meet their ongoing insurance obligations. For companies with a “B” rating or lower, their financial strength is vulnerable to adverse changes in underwriting and economic conditions. Some carriers are hesitant to issue a new policy for an individual that is coming from a “B” rated carrier or less.

The Professional Protector Plan has a forward-thinking philosophy with the modern dentist in mind, catering to all dental specialties. Our program offers extraordinary financial staying power through our carrier partner, AAIC. Rated “A” (Excellent) by A.M. Best, PPP’s financial strength allows the program to remain stable through constantly changing market conditions.
